With Dr Andrew Bell and colleagues at the University of Stirling, we developed and facilitated novel experimental games with more than 900 farmers in Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Scotland and Tanzania. The aim was to evaluate the impacts of different conflict interventions, such as subsidies and compensation payments, on farmer decision-making, and to engage under-represented stakeholders in research and conflict mitigation. The games were spatially and environmentally dynamic, played on tablet computers, using digital farming landscapes, highly visual, and developed with illiterate participants in mind.
